Your retirement benefits explained | April 2026

Welcome to your guide to the ScottishPower Pension Scheme. It explains everything you need to know about your retirement benefits in the Scheme including any choices you may need to make. It should be used at every stage of your retirement planning.

Please note that this guide is intended to be a general summary of the benefits the Scheme provides. As such, there may be individual circumstances which differ from the benefits set out in the guide and the Scheme’s Trust Deed and Rules will always take precedence over this guide.

The Scheme has two main Benefits Sections:

ScottishPower Benefits Section

FSLP Benefits Section

Some of the benefits in the Scheme differ depending on which Benefits Section you’re in.

Generally:

If you joined before 1 January 1999, you’ll be a member of the ScottishPower Benefits Section.
If you joined on or after 1 January 1999, you’ll be a member of the FSLP Section

If you were previously a member of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme before your benefits were transferred into the Scheme from 1 September 2001, you may be a member of the ESPS Section. If you think you’re a member of the ESPS Section, please contact Aptia to confirm your specific benefits as details are not included here.

How the Scheme is managed

Legal information

The Scheme is managed by the Directors of SPPS Trustee Limited (the “Trustee”). It’s their duty to run the Scheme in the best interests of you and your dependants. Half of the Directors are appointed by the Company and half are appointed by members.

The Trustee runs the Scheme in accordance with current pension laws and a formal document which records the governance of, and benefits provided by, the Scheme, called the Trust Deed and Rules. This guide gives you a summary of the Scheme benefits, but if there are any differences then the Trust Deed and Rules and pension laws will override this summary.

All relevant Scheme documents are held on OneView. The Trustee Report and Accounts can be provided on request.

Update your personal details, such as your address or email.
Nominate or update your dependants or beneficiaries and their contact details.

Help with problems

We always aim to provide a high standard of service to you. Any day-to-day queries about the Scheme should be referred to the Contact Aptia Pensions website or telephone 0330 808 1523.

However, if you experience any problems that Aptia can’t resolve for you, the Trustee has an ‘Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure’ which is designed to deal with any complaints.

The Pensions Regulator

The Pensions Regulator is the regulator of work-based pension schemes in the UK. The Pensions Regulator is able to intervene in the running of schemes where trustees, employers or professional advisers have failed in their duties. Its priority is to work with schemes to identify and reduce any risk to members’ benefits.
